It all started near the end of 2004……Alec and Greg were gaining a strong local following in the band "Junedog". At the same time, Miguel was tearing up the Vancovuer music scene with his band "Faces of Eve". Through chance both bands ended up on the same bill several times in various Vancouver clubs. A mutual respect between the bands ensued and friendship was soon to follow. "Junedog" had just recorded an album when the band broke up for numerous reasons. Alec soon found himself helping "Faces of Eve" by lending his guitar work to the band during live shows. Miguel and "Faces of Eve" had recorded an EP, done several small tours, and had established themselves as a band to watch for when they too broke up. Miguel and Alec however had formed a close friendship by now and decided to get together and explore their songwriting interests. Miguel's emotionally-charged, Britpop inspired voice proved a perfect match for Alec's mix of 80's metal, modern rock, and pop writing style. The pair soon penned an impressive portfolio of acoustic material. Originally content with keeping the songs acoustic, the pair soon decided to give the full band idea a try once again. Meanwhile, in a fatefully timed departure, Kim had parted ways with her "Lillix" bandmates and returned home to Vancouver. Soon she was approached by Alec and Miguel who asked if she would like to jam out on some of their material. After several jam sessions, the musical chemistry was undeniable and Kim joined the duo on drums. The only missing piece of the puzzle was finding a bassist. Alec decided to give his former "Junedog" bandmate and friend Greg a call. Alec's question was, "I've been meaning to call you, I'm starting a new project and was wondering if you…". Greg's answer was simply "Thanks for calling, I'm in.", and with that Sugarblade was complete. The songwriting flowed, the friendships grew strong and Sugarblade was soon on its way to bringing its music to the masses… Contact Sugarblade for bookings or information. |
